Australia’s newest indie dreamscapers, Ghost Medium, have announced their debut single, "River Sang," set for release on March 21st and to celebrate, they are hitting the road for a few live shows. The track serves as a tantalizing introduction to their forthcoming album, slated for a late spring release via their independent label, Pony Face Records.
Ghost Medium is the moniker led by Simon Bailey (Pony Face, singer-songwriter) alongside an all-star lineup, including ARIA Award-winning producer Pip Norman, and Melbourne legends Lilith Lane and Huddy Whitlock (Pro-Teens, Surprise Chef). "River Sang" was born in a moment of creative spontaneity during a camping trip along the Dhungala River, four hours north of Narrm, in Yorta Yorta country.
Bailey shares: “I remember being impressed that everyone was doing morning pages, so I figured I should write something too. Turns out, my new friends rarely did that—it was just that they had the time. I completely forgot about the scratch of a song until Pip asked if I’d written anything while we were on the river. When I found it again, I realized I had been in an honest and comfortably lost space, decompressing from lockdown and open to the pathways that had been revealed as a consequence.”
Ghost Medium made their debut performance in front of a national audience as the house band for an episode of ABC TV’s Spicks and Specks. Prior to that, Bailey and Norman began crafting their upcoming album in a remote house near Healesville, on Wurundjeri country, converting a cabin into a recording studio and a living room into a control room—surrounded by bush, lyrebirds, deer, and wombats.
