A few words from Archies Creek Arts inaugural President Jon von Goes…
As documented on the ABC Backroads program a couple of weeks back, I moved to Archies Creek 5 years ago. Peter and Mary had recently bought the pub and plans were afoot. Covid hit but the enthusiasm for living in the country and bringing music to Archies Creek didn’t dim. Then the doors opened again and the workload nearly killed Peter and Mary. So earlier this year they shut it down and we all sat and ruminated. And we, the residents of Archies Creek, were struck by how much we missed the music and the associated camaraderie. We missed the meeting place and the associated sense of neighbourhood. And the nearby residents, from all over the Bass Coast, the Island and inland and the travellers from Melbourne and beyond bemoaned the void the pub had left behind. They bemoaned loudly.
Something needed to be done and something has been done. Archies Creek Arts has been born to resurrect music and more in this strange little town. To take the load off Peter and Mary and share it around. To run events in the pub and the hall. To scale back the blockbuster events and to crank up the points of difference and quality that the Caravan Music Club and the Archies Creek Hotel had delivered. And it’s not going to be all music. Archies Creek Arts is an arts council. Watch this space.
A huge thanks to those of you who have become members already. We’ve been astonished by the numbers. We are excited and relieved. ACA has legs.An Archies Creek Arts launch is being planned for Friday 1st November. We are finalising content as I write. Tickets are on sale soon. Save the date. What we do know is that the launch will start in the pub opening the Archies Creek Arts Clubhouse and then relocate to the hall for a one-off curated gig.
The Clubhouse will be in the pub, open to members every Friday from 5.30. The music in the Clubhouse will start at 8.30 every Friday from Nov 8th.
Already on the calendar……
- Machine Translations and High Pass Filter in the hall this Saturday 21st September.
- Delaney Davidson from NZ in the Clubhouse Friday 15th Nov.
- Bill Kirchen from the USA in the hall on Sunday 17th November.Check out the website for more details: https://www.archiescreekarts.com.au/
And the next Life Drawing Session will be Thursday 26th Sept at 6pm.
…And so much more to be announced!
Yours,
Jon von Goes – A very excited ACA president
And just to get things straight…
1. The pub will not be operating as a pub apart from the Friday night Clubhouse and other gigs as announced.
2. Archies Creek Arts is the organisation that will book and run gigs and events.
3. The Archies Creek Hall is run by the Archies Creek Hall Committee. The hall will be hired regularly by ACA. If you want to hire the hall for your own function, contact the Archies Creek Hall Committee. A website will be up soon. Go to the Archies Creek Hall facebook page in the interim:
https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100064875002994
4. The Archies Creek facebook page has nothing to do with ACA, the pub or the hall. It’s a forum for our friend Rachel Musgrove from up the hill to show her
fabulous photos of the area and to sometimes comment on matters unrelated. Her photos will make great Christmas presents.
5. Anyone can become a member of Archies Creek Arts. It is most definitely not an exclusive club. Once a member, you will have first dibs on tickets to events, receive special discounts on select events and have access to the ACA clubhouse. CLICK HERE TO BECOME A MEMBER
